The following project from the hands of Andrius and our team at AFL Construction took place in the district of Peckham, South London.
For this job, our client approached looking for an experienced company in order to convert an empty loft space into a dormer. A previously bathroom would then be extended into the new dormer - adding much space to the room. This loft was done as part of a house refurbishment that can be read in more detail HERE.
One of the challenges we found most interesting about this project was the sheer size and magnitude of the dormer we had been requested to construct. We made it a zinc cladded box with low profile 2.5 wide aluminium window. From the exterior virtual tour provided below, it is easy to see how prominent the property’s addition stands from the neighbouring buildings.
Going back to the interior - we did a plethora of work. These included the bathroom extension into the dormer, including a complete refurbishment of it.
For inner structure and heating, we worked on concealing the toilet and piping system. Also, installing an electrical underfloor heating along with it.
For the lights, we added LED Strips and spotlights on the ceiling. But the, crowning gem of the room was the skylight. In order to shine natural brightness into the room in daytime, we custom-made a lovely roof skylight that also served as an access to the roof.
And to finish of with a little extra, we added a sleek and modern bi-folding screen for the shower/bath.
By the end of the task, we found the newly built section rather striking. For starters, the inside was polished with alluring modern touches. Whereas for the outside… Isn’t it charmingly fascinating to see an extension of clear industrial modernism aesthetics amongst more traditional buildings?
After a few finishing decorative details by the owners themselves, the project was completed.
It certainly was an interesting assignment for AFL to work on – and the client was pleased!
